6 Pre-Workout Tips to Help You Achieve Your Fitness Goals During Quarantine

For some, quaratine has made us lazy and sluggard. For others, they’ve developed a wellness routine which often includes working out and prepping your own meals, which ends up being much healthier than food delivery!

The truth is, most of us are just wasting our time doing nothing at all except for sleeping, eating, and scrolling the screens of our mobile phones. The lack of being able to go to the gym should not hinder your wellness.

This doesn’t mean it has to remain that way. You can easily create a wellness routine that works for you.

However, it’s not all that bad. Yes, gyms are closed, but so are our offices. So, we’ve got all the time in the world. So, why not utilize this time to work on ourselves? Why not try to reach all the fitness goals that we set a long time ago?

Now, the lockdown has massively impacted our lives. It has taken almost everything away from us, but not this. We can do it. More importantly, you can do it!

So, are you ready? Let’s jump into it. In this blog, we will talk about pre-workout tips. It is because the pre-workout routine is neglected by many, and it is not good. Only an excellent pre-workout routine can help you optimize your workout for better results.

Why is Pre-Workout Important? 

Just the right question. Do you want your mind and body to be ill-equipped when you work out? That is precisely why a pre-workout is essential.

To workout, you should be prepared mentally and physically. If this is not the case, then you might end up injuring yourself, or you might feel fatigued very soon.

If you take proper pre-workout precautions, your workout is likely going to be more safe and productive. Let’s take a look at some pre-workout tips that should be followed:

Always Rest before a Workout

Generally, people are too pumped up and excited to workout. They’re so determined that they don’t even care about resting. 

Individuals base their contentment on how tired their bodies feel after an exercise session. There’s nothing wrong with it. That is how it should be. But that is after the workout session. What about before the session?

If you’re exhausted and fatigued before a workout, then you’ll face numerous problems. Some of them are:

  • You might not work out with the same level of intensity
  • You might get yourself injured because of lack of mental clarity
  • You’re likely to cut your work out long before it usually ends due to lack of energy

These are only a few problems. There can be a lot more. You must make sure that you get at least 8 hours of sleep to help your mind function efficiently. According to studies, sleep has a direct effect on hormones contributing to your muscle growth as well as muscle loss. 

Make Sure You Wear Appropriate Clothing

It is necessary to consider what you are going to wear during your workout session. Your clothing should not be so tight that it prevents you from doing exercises or impedes your body movements. Going for clothing that is loose enough so that it does not get caught in any equipment is a great idea.

You should wear what you feel is comfortable. Spandex is a good option for females to wear during the workout. For men, wearing elastic boxer briefs during exercise is quite alright. However, the clothing should have high sweat absorption tendency to keep you dry during your workout. 

Keep Yourself Hydrated

If your body is not hydrated, it will be much harder to transport oxygen and nutrients to your cells. When this happens, you’ll be low on energy, and your exercise might not be as effective. 

A recent study stated that men should drink at least 101 ounces of water per day while women should take in at least 74 ounces. And if you work out, you must add 2-2.5 cups more to your daily water intake. 

Warm-Up Before Your Session 

It is probably not a good idea that you move on directly to your exercise session. You need to warm-up first.

You should know that warm-up is entirely different from stretching. It has to be done before you go for stretching. 

What you can do is perform a light cardiovascular activity for about 10 minutes. It could be either jumping a rope or jogging on a treadmill, or just anything that you enjoy. 

If you are thinking of focusing on a particular muscle group, then your warm-up should be done according to it. For example, if you intend to work on your lower body, you should probably ride a stationary bike as a warm-up. 

Some benefits of warming up are:

  • You’ll feel less muscle pain and tension
  • Your performance will be improved
  • You’ll have a greater range of motion
  • Risk of injury will be reduced

Don’t Forget to Stretch!

Pre-workout stretching is important. It should be done immediately after your warm-up session. You should spend around 15 minutes doing different kinds of stretches. Again, targeting those muscles you intend to work on is essential while stretching. 

Don’t stretch to such an extent that you start to feel pain. Start slowly and evenly.

As you’re stretching, make sure that your body does not make any bouncy movements. There are various benefits of stretching:

  • Just like a warm-up, stretching means you have a reduced risk of injury
  • You’ll have a greater range of motion and decreased muscle stiffness
  • It helps in improving your posture
  • Your overall performance will be improved
  • Your body will be prepared for the stress of exercise
  • Lastly, it increases circulation of blood to your muscles and joints

Your Nutrition Intake is just as important

Every calorie counts. You know that, right?

Your diet should contain proteins, fat, and carbs. Protein intake should be the highest, as this helps your muscles grow. Moreover, try to sauté your food in either olive oil or avocado oil. When you dine out, it is best to avoid fried food, alcohol, or desserts. 

Final Thoughts

Like we said before, don’t let this lockdown get in the way of achieving your fitness goals. Just follow the tips given above to make things easier for your workout session.
